We need not only more hands but also your individual knowledge, skills and experiences so that the vision and mission of the society is realized and for you the deep satisfaction that arises by helping others.

Our Dream

One is to set up a Hospice Centre on the island which will continue the Hospice-at-Home Programme (Phase 1) along with a new service – an in-patient hospice service provided funds available (Phase 2).  The centre will also undertake education and training in hospice care for health professionals and the public. Plans for Phase 1 have been submitted to the City Council.

An Appeal for Setting Up A Hospice Centre

Our “Hospice-at-Home Programme” provides medical care by nurses and doctors in the homes of residents in Penang who have advanced diseases.  This innovative service began in 1992 and it is a free service. Operating from rented premises all these years has not been easy but the good news is that land has been made available for a building of our own.

Our Vision

Our vision is not only to continue this much needed community service but increase training facilities for health professionals towards quality care as well as train family care givers for caring at home. This will be in phase one of the building programme on which we are embarking now. In phase two the vision is to build a twenty bed inpatient hospice service. This will be a short term facility to help in the management of patients who have difficult symptoms to manage at home. Once better they will be sent home. This facility can also provide respite for a few days for family carers who are physically or emotionally drained from the caring at home.

Phase One Building Plans and Funds for the Building

hospicecenter

Plans for phase one has been submitted to the City Council. On approval building is expected to commence by December 2017.

The cost for the first phase is estimated to be RM4 million. We have already raised RM1,278,774.00 and there is also a pledge of a further RM 1 million. Thus we have to raise RM1.8 million.
